SNCF Réseau and Frauscher officially signed a contract for Next Generation Axle Counting System

Frauscher's success continues this year with a contract which was secured last August from SNCF Réseau, the infrastructure manager of the national railway network in France. Under the contract, Frauscher will be responsible for supporting a new-generation axle counter across its entire lifecycle including development, deployment, and keeping them in operational conditions.

Major contractual obligations include:

  • Unified EULYNX interface
  • SIL4
  • Interfaces with old and new interlocking
  • Cybersecurity
  • Increased performance in terms of operation, availability and upkeep of axle counters that are already deployed

During the tender period, Frauscher was rigorously evaluated on a number of technological criteria, and we are very proud of the fact that we have successfully passed all of them. Winning the contract confirms the brand's reputation for providing state-of-the-art solutions and setting new benchmarks in the rail industry.

Pursuing end-to-end rail modernisation in France

In 2017, Frauscher set up its French offices in Haguenau, in order to be as close as possible to its customers and fulfill the requirements of the French market. Frauscher is now involved in many French projects, including the tramway, and makes significant contributions to the development of national transport.

This contract is an important step for Frauscher and is part of our strategy to digitalise our services to national operators. Not only will it establish us as a preferred rail solutions company, but it will also enable us to widen our scope of clients in France and worldwide.

An exciting future for Frauscher

According to Mayank Tripathi, CSO of Frauscher Sensor Technology: "Never before has a network launched a tender of this magnitude to select an axle counting system supplier. It is a complex project with a very specific interface and product requirements. However, we have all the tools at our disposal to ensure a smooth implementation of our solutions into the existing infrastructure, including extensive experience with EULYNX."

Defining long-term strategies for the contract

Securing the contract is only the first step in a long journey to highly digitalised railway systems. A contract of this size, scope and duration must of course be executed with robust management and organisation. As the saying goes, "A journey of a thousand miles always begins with a first step."

Frauscher has already defined its strategy and operational steps in order to meet SNCF Réseau's requirements. This will be carried out in three phases:

1.  Development and homologation: Per the contract, Frauscher must deliver an existing product (FAdC) with a unified EULYNX interface, which would require modifications to the architecture, to the FadC system, and to the functioning of the axle counting itself.

2.  Deployment: SNCF Réseau will systematically deploy these axle counters on the national railway network which the organisation is responsible for.

3.  Maintenance in Operational Conditions (MOC): Frauscher will be responsible to keep the system in operational conditions during its lifetime. This includes obsolescence management, reliability management, cybersecurity management, …

Mapping the way to a digital future

A team is assigned to the contract and the SNCF Réseau's timelines. All key resources for the contract will be based in France to ensure greater communication and collaboration between all stakeholders.
