Frauscher Sensor Technology has officially broken ground in Mysore, Karnataka, with construction now underway on the upcoming manufacturing hub. The new production site underscores the company’s long-term vision to support global rail modernisation and strengthen resilient, agile supply chains. With construction commencing on 07 August 2025, the extended facility is set to be operational by October 2026.
Spanning more than 14,400 square metres (155,000 square feet), the two-storey stateof-the-art building will scale up production capabilities and act as a cornerstone in Frauscher’s global manufacturing strategy.
“This new facility marks a significant step in our long-term strategy to support India’s evolving rail ecosystem as well as markets beyond,” said Akhilesh Yadav, Managing Director of Frauscher Sensor Technology India. “It strengthens our ability to deliver at scale, drive local innovation, and respond faster to market needs. Our mission is clear: put operators in control, enhance network safety and efficiency, and build systems that are ready for the future of the Indian railway network.”
Designed to serve both local and global needs, the new facility will bring together cutting-edge production and research capabilities. The ground floor will accommodate high-volume manufacturing operations, while the first floor will host office space, a dedicated research and development hub, and two specialised centres that reflect Frauscher’s commitment to collaboration and knowledge sharing.
The Frauscher Training Centre will provide a dedicated environment where railway professionals, customers, and partners can engage in hands-on learning with Frauscher technologies. By enabling practical experience and joint problem-solving, the centre aims to bridge the gap between theory and application in modern railway operations.
In parallel, the Frauscher Experience Centre will serve as an immersive hub, showcasing the company’s latest innovations. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore Frauscher’s advanced technologies in depth and see how they are applied in real-world railway systems. These two centres will be instrumental in fostering stronger industry partnerships and accelerating the adoption of intelligent rail solutions.
Michael Thiel, CEO of Frauscher Sensor Technology, emphasised the broader significance of the new hub: “The construction of our new manufacturing hub in India marks an important milestone in our global strategy to build a more resilient and responsive supply chain. Designed to complement our Austrian operations, this site expands our manufacturing footprint and strengthens our ability to meet growing demand across key international markets, while maintaining the high standards of quality and innovation.”
Sustainability is deeply embedded in every aspect of the Mysore facility’s design. The new production site will feature systems that enable 100 percent wastewater recycling and mechanisms for rainwater harvesting, ensuring that valuable resources are conserved. Additionally, groundwater will be replenished through carefully planned percolation pits, supporting long-term water sustainability in the region.
To further reduce the environmental footprint, the facility’s roof will be equipped with solar panels that generate clean energy. By integrating sustainable practices into the very foundation of its operations, Frauscher is aligning its environmental responsibilities with its technological ambitions.
The ceremonial launch of the construction reflected Frauscher’s deep respect for the local culture. The event began with a traditional blessing and included a symbolic shovel ceremony, followed by a tree-planting ritual. These gestures highlighted the company’s focus on sustainable growth and its commitment to forming long-term partnerships within the region.
Dignitaries from Indian Railways and key industry partners were present at the ceremony, reinforcing the shared ambition to transform India’s rail infrastructure with future-ready technologies.
As the global railway sector undergoes rapid digitalisation and India accelerates its infrastructure modernisation efforts, Frauscher’s new Mysore facility is positioned to play a pivotal role. The expanded manufacturing capacity will allow the company to respond more swiftly to customer needs, support local innovation, and enable the delivery of intelligent solutions at scale.
By blending global expertise with regional capabilities, Frauscher is not only reinforcing its commitment to the “Make in India” vision, but also laying the foundation for a smarter, safer, and more connected railway.
