Scope of project
Maintenance, Training

Frauscher supported the Salzburger Lokalbahn, a regional railway in Austria, with a service assignment that included both the maintenance of Frauscher wheel sensors and axle counters as well as hands-on training for the installation personnel. The customer benefited from efficient troubleshooting and tailored training delivered directly on their own equipment.

Frauscher supported SLV with a targeted service assignment focused on maintaining Frauscher solutions, including wheel sensors and axle counters, and providing practical training for the maintenance staff. This project addressed both technical issues and knowledge gaps caused by staff turnover and the long operational life of the existing equipment—some of which, like the Wheel Sensor RSR180, had been in use for up to 30 years.

The project centered on the Bergheim line, where intermittent faults prompted SLV to request expert assistance. Over three days, Frauscher’s team conducted comprehensive inspections and adjustments of both trackside and indoor components, including replacements and diagnostic checks. All findings were documented and handed over in a detailed report.

Training was delivered both in the field and in a dedicated classroom session, tailored to the operators requirements and systems in use. This practical approach enabled staff to immediately apply the knowledge using their own equipment, ensuring fast and efficient learning process. Furthermore, the participants also received a certificate of completion to confirm that they have undertaken the required training.

The service was further enhanced by the use of the Frauscher Insights Motion application, a digital tool that streamlined the entire maintenance process with checklists and GPS-based data logging. With these measures, the customer now benefits from improved system reliability, increased in-house expertise, and digital documentation for future maintenance.

Targeted maintenance, hands-on training, and digital tools helped SLV overcome current challenges and boost long-term efficiency:

Efficient Troubleshooting

Axle counters and sensors were inspected and corrected during maintenance. Sensor adjustments resolved recurring issues, ensuring uninterrupted service and correct system installation.

Maintenance without Downtime

Thanks to EULYNX, the different lifecycles of interlocking components are decoupled, meaning they can be replaced independently of the manufacturer.

Practice-Oriented Training

Staff were trained through fieldwork and tailored theory sessions, using the operator’s own equipment. This hands-on approach ensures fast and efficient transfer of knowledge.

Comprehensive Documentation

A full report with component status and actions was provided. Operators using the Motion application also gain access to GPS data for future reference.

Dillinger Hütte

A new ladder track was required to provide more parking tracks in the steel plant. At the same time, the layout of the dead end tracks were optimised and the efficiency of the whole depot improved by installing the Frauscher Advanced Counter FAdC®i in combination with the wheel sensor RSR180. With the implementation of the Frauscher Diagnostic System FDS, the overall maintenance costs can be significantly reduced.

Renewal signalling FAdC® and RSR123

Banedanmark, the Danish railway infrastructure owner, started replacing the existing signalling system in the Eastern region of Denmark in 2009 to implement the newest proven signalling technology, based on standard industrial hardware components and redundant system configurations. Uniform system interfaces should reduce signalling failures to provide a better reliability and punctuality of the entire network. For this project, Frauscher delivered the Frauscher Advanced Counter FAdC® and the Frauscher Wheel Sensor RSR123.

Headbolt Lane to Rainford Project

As part of the project to expand Merseyrail services, the operator needed to address the challenge of transmitting indication information over a specific section, spanning from Headbolt Lane to Rainford. In this instance, Frauscher’s technology was utilised to fulfill the data transmission requirements of this project, avoiding expensive and time consuming cabling that would have otherwise been required.
