Frauscher Insights Diagnostics

Operating a high-density tram network through Dietikon, Aargau Verkehr AG (AVA) needed a structured way to monitor the performance of its train detection system in a challenging environment. For track vacancy detection, the operator relies on the Frauscher Advanced Counter FAdC® together with the Frauscher Wheel Sensor RSR180. The line's high-density urban setting brings unavoidable interference — from objects landing on sensors to permanent occupancies and partial traversing that must be interpreted correctly — while trams equipped with low-hanging magnetic track brakes required a dedicated Frauscher algorithm to reliably distinguish tram wheels from the braking technology.

To turn these challenges into actionable insight, Frauscher implemented Insights Diagnostics across the Dietikon network, giving Aargau Verkehr a dashboard overview of overall system status alongside dedicated views for elements like track sections and detection points, showing historical events and details such as the sensor's current curve. This gives their team full visibility into notifications and their underlying causes, as well as a complete overview of their wheel sensors' health status. Before acting, the team can now identify whether a notification is caused by current drift, permanent occupancy, a partial traversing, or another influence — and plan precise countermeasures, such as calibrating a sensor without unnecessary site visits.

Because Frauscher Insights Diagnostics continuously monitors the condition of the system and all connected wheel sensors, it supports more than immediate troubleshooting — sensor status can be tracked constantly, enabling efficient planning of maintenance activities. This gives Aargau Verkehr the foundation for a predictive maintenance strategy built on the ongoing condition of the network, rather than on reactive fault response alone. The project shows how Frauscher Insights Diagnostics turns already-available FAdC® diagnostic data into actionable maintenance intelligence, helping Aargau Verkehr run its demanding urban tram network with confidence — even under challenging environmental conditions.

Time savings

The diagnostic interface within Frauscher Insights provides clear, ready-to-use information — no time-consuming interpretation needed before deciding whether a site visit is required.

Operational excellence

Maintenance decisions are rooted in evidence from the system rather than on-site guesswork, thanks to clear information delivered straight from the dashboard.

Remote diagnostics capability

Frauscher Insights Diagnostics lets Aargau Verkehr remotely assess whether a message requires on-site action – before anyone is deployed.
