Axle Counting without limits

Frauscher Advanced Counter FAdC®

Safe and reliable axle counting solution

Flexibility is key: The Frauscher Advanced Counter FAdC® enables a wide variety of configurations and is equally suitable for use in small, large and complex systems. It has proven its high reliability in installation all over the globe, throughout all climatic conditions. Customised protocols or the Frauscher Safe Ethernet FSE protocol enable simple and reliable integration.

Benefits at a glance

Simple and flexible configuration

Software interface

Flexible architecture and scalable structure

Low maintenance requirements

Minimised life cycle costs

Simple installation and project management

Multiple possibilities, one goal: Optimum railway operation

The combination of all outdoor and indoor components of the FAdC® creates a solid data basis, which supports railway operators in operating their trains safely and efficiently.

With regards to the trackside equipment, the robust Wheel Sensors RSR123 and RSR180 ensure reliable axle counting – being IP68 certified and approved for SIL 4. Additionally, sturdy trackside connection boxes and the patented Frauscher rail claws support seamless operations and allow for installation in just a few minutes, completely without drilling into the rail.

Via the trackside connection box, the wheel sensors are connected to the indoor system with cables where all signals are collected, analysed and processed. All components of the indoor system are perfectly designed for axle counting and data communication.

The special scalability of the FAdC® also comes into play in the indoor area: The system’s components present the operator with substantial savings in terms of space, energy and investment costs - these savings increase proportionally with the size of the project

FAdC® speaks standard and individual protocols

Connection between the FAdC® and high-performance electronic interlockings can be implemented either via a customer-specific protocol or the Frauscher Safe Ethernet FSE protocol. In addition, the FAdC® can communicate by means of the latest EULYNX standards, empowering maximum independence.

Frauscher Connect is the common interface for all Frauscher products. It provides information to interlockings, diagnostic systems and Frauscher Insights in a secure manner.

The population of the Frauscher axle counters FAdC® brings many benefits, especially in regard to reliability and it was proved right as they are performing exceptionally well. Knowing the Frauscher team is available to answer any technical queries, gives me confidence and I look forward to a trouble free system on the Island Line.

Fault protection included

With Supervisor Track Section STS and Counting Head Control CHC, the FAdC® has two functions that recognise and rectify faults - and thus increase system availability.

The STS is an automated fault correction feature. It enables the system to automatically reset itself, in case an error occurs which is caused by an external disturbance.

Using CHC, counting heads can be switched to a stand-by mode in cases where adjacent track sections are clear. This unique feature helps to avoid counting errors and fault messages from being generated due to external factors which may cause interferences such as road traffic, metal objects from maintenance activities or debris on track surfaces.

Using diagnostic data smartly

As a higher-ranking diagnostic system, Frauscher Insights Diagnostics allows the data from train detection to be viewed on a clear dashboard. An integrated track plan enables the visualisation of the diagnostic data, as well as the logging of errors and warnings. This allows the operator to react – even before a failure occurs.

Frauscher Advanced Counter FAdC®i

The FAdC®i is a particularly cost-effective version of the Frauscher Advanced Counter FAdC®. It was specially developed for the use in marshalling yards, industrial facilities and local public transit.

Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) Supplementing Audio Frequency Track Circuits with Axle Counters | USA

At the Charlotte Area Transit System, frequent false red signal overruns resulted when electromagnetic interference caused “bobbing” of the line’s audio frequency track circuits. The Frauscher Advanced Counter FAdC® was subsequently considered as an alternative to these track circuits to eliminate the occurrence of false red signal overruns.

GKB Graz-Köflacher Bahn | Austria

The operator of the Graz-Köflacher Bahn has made substantial modernisations to the network, choosing a decentralised system architecture and the EULYNX standardised interface. In this case, it was crucial that the new system would ensure a seamless transition from the previous parallel interface for relay systems to EULYNX.
