Frauscher has played a pivotal role in delivering reliable, innovative and future proof train detection and cloud-based data-driven solutions across the UK and Ireland. In collaboration with our customers, Frauscher’s innovative solutions have supported the development of safe, efficient, and scalable rail infrastructure—helping the industry modernise legacy systems, reduce maintenance, and embrace digital transformation.
Here’s how our innovative solutions made a difference in the rail industry – demonstrating trust, impact and long-term value to rail infrastructure.
Featuring over 80 wheel sensors, this was one of the first Frauscher train detection systems installed in the UK market. Our Wheel Sensor RSR123 was selected for its robustness against electromagnetic interference and its SIL 4 certification, ensuring safe and dependable train detection systems.
With over 700 wheel sensors, this project was one of the largest and was in operation for train detection and data transmission in the UK. Our system is used for track vacancy detection as Frauscher axle counters offer higher availability, reduced maintenance and lifecycle costs compared to various systems currently in use.
With over 450 wheel sensors delivered, this project will use Frauscher’s train detection system with its data transmission capabilities. Our Frauscher Advanced Counter FAdC® and Frauscher Wheel Sensor RSR123 made it an ideal choice for this project.
Over 800 wheel sensors are implemented for train detection. Our fail-safe track vacancy detection system significantly improves both operational efficiency and interoperability in one of Wales’s busiest networks.
The rollout of Frauscher Insights, a cloud-based data platform, has marked a significant step in proactively identifying failures. It has helped reduce maintenance costs and reduced system downtime. Users have noticed a reduction in the meantime to repair and improved data availability. In some cases, it has pre-emptively alerted users to faults before they occurred, highlighting its potential in proactive diagnostics. Insights have also helped shape the platform’s development through continuous user feedback.
The Colchester to Norwich project was Frauscher's largest data transmission project in the UK and Ireland market in 2024. It enabled seamless communication across multiple locations while requiring minimal equipment and space.
The project has successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of data transmission as a modern alternative to traditional Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM) and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) technologies.
With over 350 wheel sensors to be delivered for train detection in Ireland, this project marks a milestone for the UK as we enter the Ireland market. Our Frauscher systems provide reliable track vacancy information to any interlocking system, ensuring safe train movements and optimised traffic flow worldwide.
