This year, Frauscher UK & Ireland celebrates 15 years of supporting the rail industry across the region.

Numerous successful projects, a strong network of long-standing partners, and a commitment to innovation have made Frauscher a trusted name in the UK rail industry. Since the beginning, we have been strengthening this position—and the course is set for further growth.

To mark this milestone, we sat down with Melanie Gangl-Verma, Managing Director of Frauscher UK Ltd., to look back—and forward.

Melanie's story with Frauscher started years ago as an intern in Austria. Since then, she has led a production unit in India, worked across continents, and now heads the UK & Ireland business. If anyone knows what’s made this journey a success, it’s her.

Let’s hear from her on how she and her team are helping UK & Ireland rail network ready for the future.

What do you think has made Frauscher UK & Ireland successful over the past 15 years?

Frauscher UK's success over the past years

To me, it’s the team. We have built a strong and experienced group of engineers here. Many of them have been with us for over 10 years, which is rare. That kind of stability means we know the industry, our products, and our customers really well. And that shows in the service we provide.

How do you keep that technical excellence going?

Technical excellence

Honestly, it comes from being hands-on and close to the work. Our engineers don’t just know the systems—they help shape how we use them. Having long-standing people in key roles helps us keep that knowledge in-house and keep improving.

Network Rail has been a key partner—what’s that relationship like?

Network Rail is a key partner

It’s been over 16 years now, since we first got involved with them in 2009, and that connection has grown over time. Their input has shaped how our products evolved. It’s more than a client relationship—it’s a collaborative one, and that’s made a big difference.

Does customer feedback really shape the products you develop?

Customer feedback

Always. Whether it’s from Network Rail or others across the UK and Ireland market, feedback is at the heart of how we work. We don’t just collect it—we act on it. That’s what keeps our solutions relevant.

What does the next decade look like for rail, especially with AI coming in?

Next decade in rail

AI’s going to have a huge role in how rail systems are managed. We see a shift towards preventive maintenance, smarter diagnostics, and secure, digital-first infrastructure. Our job is to help make that transition smoother—by staying modular, reliable, and ahead of the curve.

How do you stay on top of technology trends?

Technology trends

We are lucky to have a strong Research & Development team —more than 120 people—mainly based at our dedicated Frauscher Innovation Centre in Austria, where Frauscher was founded. We work closely with them to stay on the front foot. We also work with RIVVAL Ltd., in Ireland—they have been a great Sales partner in helping us scale and stay responsive to local needs. It’s about collaboration at every level.

Final thoughts as you hit this 15-year milestone?

Final thoughts

We are proud—but we are not slowing down. Special thanks to the team, our customers, and our partners for getting us here. We are looking forward to what’s next.
